Find a cofounder, unlock Founder Dating for Vancouver

After our brief re-blog of the Toronto push for unlocking FounderDating, I recently spoke with Jessica Alter, the founder of the company.

Vancouver is one of the cities in Canada that she’d love to see “unlocked”. If you are looking for a cofounder / want to build a startup, you can skip the explanation and head straight to the unlock page for Vancouver.

From Jessica, here is some background:

What is FounderDating?

FounderDating is a premier online network for entrepreneurs to connect with cofounders. We’re pretty different in that we are:

High Quality - everyone is screened for quality and readiness. Applications and members’ identities are confidential (many have jobs still)
Balanced - member base is 50% engineers/50% non-engineers

How Can Vancouver Join the Network?

While SF, NYC, Seattle, LA, Boston and Austin are already part of the network. FD decided to take the question of which other cities to include to the communities themselves. They just launched “Unlock Your City” so that any city/community that submitted at least 50 applications would be on the list to join the FounderDating Network. Las Vegas, Portland, Norfolk have all done it and we’ve already kicked things off there. Toronto, DC & Detroit are well on their way.

Couple key things to note:

FD is not “speed dating for cofounders” - they don’t do speed dating, never have, never will.
You do NOT need an idea to apply. Just need to be ready to start something or at least work on a meaningful side-project (20ish hrs/week).
This is not only for first-time entrepreneurs - a huge % of members are repeat entrepreneurs
FounderDating is NOT a meetup/event - FD is an online network and you get access to tons of talented entrepreneurs around your area and N.America. As an introduction to your round and the community you’re invited to an initial kickoff but the power is in the network you become a part of.
